Friday evening in Cheel commons, Steve
Banachek performed mentalist acts to the astonishment of a large crowd. Banachek
has performed on CNN live and the Today Show, and was the Performer of the Year
on campus in 98-99. Throughout his entire show Banachek continually amused and
amazed the audience with astonishing acts of mental ability and humor.
Banachek began his act by correctly guessing the type of playing cards that two
female volunteers of the audience were thinking of just by their posture and
actions. Banachek then proceeded to further intrigue the group by randomly
picking two male volunteers from the crowd and having them pick a number between
one and ten. Banachek then went on further by being blindfolded and correctly
telling the serial number of a twenty dollar bill.
One of Banachek's greater deeds of the night was when he had three volunteers
from the audience rise. The first picked a number between one and 146. This told
Banachek what page in a Potsdam phone book to go to. The second volunteer picked
a number between one and three. This number told Banachek what column of the
phone book to go to and the third volunteer told him when to stop running his
finger down the page. Banachek then read off the number under his finger with an
assistant verifying that was the number he stopped on. Banachek then turned
around and grabbed a white board off his table with a number written on it. The
number Banachek read from the phone book was the same number that had been
previously written on the white board before the show.
These are just a sample of all the mystery and amusement that was in Steve
Banachek's show. For more information on Banachek and what he does visit his
website at www.banachek.com and see for
yourself what he does. I would highly recommend that anyone who did not have the
opportunity to go to his show on Friday, go check out the site and read about
all the other amazing things that Banachek does.
Overall the show was a thrilling time and a must see. If you could not make the
show, you should try and see Banachek sometime in your life. He will amaze,
amuse, astound, and perplex you with his ability.
